I am currently working as a Research Software Engineer at the Engineering Hub at Renaissance Philanthropy (RenPhil). There, I support ed-tech teams with engineering expertise, especially in implementing AI-supported tools. Recently, I have moved a manual multimodal transcription setup into the cloud, investigated the current ability of automatic speech recognition in children’s literacy, and developed a WhatsApp-based feedback service for teachers seeking to improve their teaching.
Previously, I was a Sr. Research Software Engineer at Saga, where I built an ML speech-processing pipeline, LLM-based tools for giving them personalized and actionable feedback grounded in pedagogical research, and worked with university researchers studying what actually makes tutoring effective.
I particularly like to think about automatic speech recognition (ASR), data pipelines and engineering, and cloud infrastructure.
Education
I’ve earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science at the Univeristy of Münster, Germany, focussing on Algorithmic Graph Theory. I have also earned a Bachelor and Master of Science in Physics at the Universities of Münster and Heidelberg, respectively. Following that, I received a Doctorate (Dr. rer. nat.) for Physics from the University of Heidelberg, specializing in Particle Physics Phenomenology.
Personal Life
Hailing from Germany, I now live in State College, PA. Aside from particle physics and software engineering, I am passionate about reading fantasy, learning to play the ukulele, and baking breads and pastries I can’t buy here.
